Cookie policy
Protiva uses cookies and similar techniques to make the website and the portals work and to improve them. Below you can read which kinds we use, what for, and how to manage your preferences.
What cookies are
Cookies are small text files placed on your device when you visit the website. We also use similar techniques, such as local storage in the browser. Together they keep you logged in and remember your preferences, for example.
Why we use cookies
We use cookies and local storage to let you log in and keep your session secure, to remember your preferences (such as language), and to measure for ourselves how the website is used: which pages get read, which link brought someone in, and where people drop off. We run that measurement ourselves, on our own servers in the EU. We use no advertising cookies for it, we build no profiles, and we do not sell data.
Which kinds of cookies we use
We distinguish four kinds. Necessary and functional cookies are needed for the site to work and require no consent. Our own visit statistics are first-party: no third party is involved and no profile is built. For third-party cookies — the partner programme and the Meta pixel — we ask your consent in advance and place nothing before you give it.
| Cookie | Purpose | Type | Retention |
|---|---|---|---|
| Session / authentication | Logging in and securing the session | Necessary | Session |
| Preferences (incl. language) | Remembering your settings | Functional | Max. 12 months |
| Security (CSRF) | Protecting against form abuse | Necessary | Session |
| protiva-cookie-consent | Remembering your cookie choice so we do not ask again | Necessary | Max. 12 months |
| protiva.vid | Our own visit statistics: recognising that consecutive pages are one visit | Analytical (first-party) | Until you clear your browser storage |
| protiva.attr | Remembering which link or campaign brought you to the site | Analytical (first-party) | 90 days |
| protiva.session | Tying pages within a single visit together | Analytical (first-party) | Until you close the tab |
| Tolt (cdn.tolt.io) | Attributing a sign-up to the partner who referred you | Analytical (third-party) | Per Tolt's own policy |
| Meta pixel (connect.facebook.net) | Measuring which advert on Facebook or Instagram led to a visit, and counting that visit towards adverts you are shown later | Marketing (third-party) | Per Meta's own policy |
Consent and managing your preferences
For third-party cookies we ask your consent in advance, with an equivalent option to accept or refuse; as long as you choose nothing, we do not load those scripts. Your choice is recorded and sent along with our own measurement, so we can demonstrate what you chose. You can change or withdraw your choice at any time, and delete cookies and local storage through your browser settings; some features may then no longer work properly.
Third-party cookies
Some parts of the site may set third-party cookies: maps, and the partner programme that lets us attribute a sign-up to the creator who referred you (Tolt, a US service). We only load those after your consent; those cookies are also subject to the relevant party's own policy.
How long we keep measurement data
Whatever we keep from a visit, we keep no longer than needed. Individual page views and clicks are kept for at most 400 days, so we can compare one year with the previous one; after that they are removed. What remains are daily totals without identifiable data. We do not store your IP address: we use it only at the moment of the visit, to filter out automated traffic and our own test traffic.
Relationship to the privacy statement
In so far as personal data is processed through cookies, the legal bases and rights set out in our privacy statement also apply.
Changes
Cookies and techniques change; we therefore update this cookie policy regularly. The date of the last change is at the bottom of this page.
