Why a portfolio is excluded from the box 3 calculation

Protiva shows under Portfolios not included which portfolios fall outside the box 3 tax base and why. This lets you see at a glance whether a portfolio is intentionally excluded or whether missing data can be supplemented.

Where to find this

  1. Go to box 3 return;

  2. Scroll down to the Portfolios not included section.

Possible reasons

Each excluded portfolio displays one of the following reasons:

  • VPB portfolio — falls under box 2, not box 3 — the portfolio is subject to corporate income tax and belongs in box 2, not box 3.
  • No ownership — you only manage this portfolio — you are not a (co-)owner of this portfolio but only manage it on behalf of someone else. Without an ownership share there is no tax base to declare.
  • Not active — the portfolio has been archived or deactivated and is therefore not included.
  • Exchange rate missing — the portfolio uses a currency other than the euro and no exchange rate is available for the reference date. Protiva deliberately excludes the portfolio instead of counting it at € 0, so that an understated tax base remains visible. The missing currency is shown alongside the reason.

When does this section appear

The section is only visible when at least one portfolio is excluded. If all your portfolios are included, you will not see this section.
