Understanding the certainty of tax parameters used

For each tax year, Protiva displays a badge indicating how certain the rates, deemed returns and tax-free allowance are. This tells you whether the calculation is based on final or provisional figures.

Where to find this

  1. Go to box 3 return;

  2. Choose a year in the Tax year dropdown. The badge appears next to the dropdown.

Three levels of certainty

The badge shows the word Certainty followed by one of the three statuses below. The status is determined by the parameter set Protiva uses for that tax year.

Certain

The rates and deemed returns have been definitively established. The calculation is based on the official, published figures from the tax authority. The badge is green.

Likely

The figures are based on a legislative proposal or tax plan that has not yet been formally adopted. The chance of change is small but not excluded. The badge is yellow.

Uncertain

The figures are provisional — for example a forecast for a future tax year for which no legislative proposal has been submitted yet. The badge is yellow.

Certainty per model

In addition to the badge next to the tax year, each calculation model — Estimated return (flat rate) and Actual return (counter-evidence) — has its own status badge. It may differ from the overall badge because one model relies on different deemed returns than the other. Always check the badge on the model card that is most favourable to you.
