Interest, Collection costs and Fixed compensation on a claim

For every outstanding invoice in the dunning process, Protiva automatically tracks which costs are added on top of the principal: statutory interest, Collection costs (WIK scale) and the Fixed compensation for business debtors (B2B). This article describes where to find those amounts and how they are calculated.

Where to find this

  1. Go to Reminders;

  2. Click an invoice row to open the invoice panel;
  3. Open the Claim tab.

Principal

The original outstanding amount of the invoice, without any interest or cost surcharges.

Statutory interest

Statutory interest that is automatically calculated once the dunning ladder reaches a stage for which interest is enabled. Whether interest is included is configured per step in the reminder settings.

Collection costs

Collection costs according to the statutory scale (WIK). These are added to the claim when the relevant stage prescribes it. Additionally, costs for a failed direct debit can be charged separately; the default amount is configured in the reminder settings.

Fixed compensation

The Fixed compensation of €40 for business debtors (B2B), in accordance with the European directive. This is added once the dunning step is configured for it.

Total due

The sum of the Principal, statutory interest, Collection costs and Fixed compensation. This is the total amount the debtor owes. When multiple invoices from the same debtor are bundled into one message, the panel also shows the total for the entire bundle.

Automatic calculation

As long as no interest or costs have accrued, the tab shows a note explaining that interest and costs are calculated automatically once the relevant stage is reached. You do not need to enter the amounts manually.

Waiving costs

You can waive costs per invoice. The costs are then not added to the claim. This is done via the cost section of the invoice.
